DMS School Improvement Efforts... Governor Sanford Ballard Dole Middle School (DMS) has focused our school improvement efforts on four main areas: 1) development of a Multi Tiered System of Instruction and Intervention (RTI A & B), 2) increasing student engagement through the integration of Technology/STEM-A, 3) increasing Professional Development (PD) opportunities for our Faculty & Staff, and 4) building a positive School Climate that is safe and conducive to student learning. DMS has completed the final year School Improvement Grant (SIG) during SY 2016-17. Combined with the additional grant sources (Uplinks, Title I, Hawaii Keiki Nurse…) and community partnerships, DMS maintains the fiscal supports allowing us to sustain a middle school philosophy that support our grade level teams.
Multi Tiered System of Instruction and Intervention The goal at DMS is to provide all students with the necessary academic and behavioral supports that will build the foundation towards academic success. DMS fosters the belief of a “growth mindset” where all students can and will succeed given the right supports and interventions. * Tier 1, 2, & 3 supports for Response to Intervention (RTI) Academics & Behavioral Supports * New On-line Positive Rewards System - HERO * New Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS) PRIDE Matrix * Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) required elective for all 6th graders * iReady On-line Reading & Math Assessment, Monitoring, and Intervention System.
Integration of Technology/ STEM-A DMS focus is to maximize student learning and engagement to ensure student academic success. Professional Development Opportunities for School Personnel DMS Instructional coaches and various contracted provider have been actively supporting the school personnel with the transition to the Common Core. Over the past two years, all curricular departments participated in the development of Pacing Guides to strengthen Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessments (CIA).
